A giant inflatable water park will be trialled at Pelican Park as part of the Redcliffe Foreshore Master Plan, adopted by Moreton Bay Regional Council recently.
The plan also includes areas where activities and businesses such as pop-up food trucks, entertainment, hire stalls and water sports can be set up along the waterfront.
The region’s chamber of commerce is also backing the move.
La Vera owner Michael Bain said he welcomed the idea of a planning process for the Bribie Island foreshore.
“It would be great to see this area and all its facilities managed more efficiently,” he said.
“I would like to see the under-utilised amphitheatre located in Brennan Park put to better use.
“The Island and surrounding area have many great artists that would love an opportunity to use this facility at staged events.”
Councillor Brooke Savige (Div 1) said due to Bribie and Redcliffe’s similar foreshore accessibility it makes sense for the council to adopt similar commercial adventures.
“It will be a little down the track and we’re not sure of the finer details at the moment but we will give the resident an opportunity to have their say on what they want to see activated along the foreshore,” Cr Savige said.
“The main this is communicating with local businesses and making sure what we do won’t take away from them but add to them.
“We have a fantastic area and we want to be activating that foreshore with more people so businesses can thrive and get involved.”
Mayor Allan Sutherland said he welcomed ideas from residents and businesses on activating the Bribie Island foreshore and encouraged them to continue to share their ideas with the council.
“The Redcliffe Foreshore Master Plan and Activation Strategy is a pilot trial for the whole of Moreton Bay, and could pave the way for similar activations in Bribie Island and other areas in the region,” Mayor Sutherland said.
