BRISBANE property sellers are listing their homes for higher prices than a year ago with those off loading houses in the eastern suburbs the most bullish.
New figures from SQM Research reveals the average asking price for houses in that area was up 4.9 per cent on the same time last year to $701,400.
Unit asking prices in the same area increased by 3.5 per cent to $459,000.
But it was the unit market in the Beenleigh corridor where asking prices increased the most in the past year, up 12.5 per cent to $392,200.
SQM Research managing director Louis Christopher said price gains had been a mixed bag across Australia in 2016.
He said much of the east coast, including Brisbane had recorded buoyant market conditions while Perth and Darwin remained in a downturn.
He said his latest asking price data suggested that it should be a strong start to the new calendar year for the housing market.
House asking prices were up in most cities over the month to December 20 and over the year.
Greater Brisbane house asking prices were up by 2.4 per cent for the year to $598,400.
