A CHINESE couple who spent nearly a year looking for the perfect property has paid about $1.5 million in cash for a century-old Queenslander in Brisbane.
The entrepreneur signed the contract for 26 Glenny Street, Toowong, on the spot, despite only setting eyes on the home for the first time, after his wife gave the tick of approval.
Selling agent Paul Howe of @realty said the couple had been looking to buy in the area for six months to a year and planned to settle in Brisbane.
“They couldn’t agree on a property but this was an exception — they both liked it,” Dr Howe said.
“The wife came through first and called her husband.
“They had a discussion and after about two hours, he said to me ‘prepare the contract’.”
The entire transaction was finalised in just five days — an outcome Dr Howe admitted was “very, very rare”.
“It’s crazy,” he said.

The buyer was a VIP client of Dr Howe’s, who owned a high-end restaurant in the area and was looking for a home on a big block of land close to Brisbane Boys College, the Toowong Village precinct and the University of Queensland.
Dr Howe said the buyers had “grand plans” for the property, including replacing the entrance lights with crystal chandeliers, lining the house with French and Chinese antiques and knocking down some walls to create an enormous master bedroom.
“I think they’re going to make it look a lot more snazzy than it is currently,” Dr Howe said.
He wouldn’t reveal the exact sale price.
The four-bedroom, three-bathroom property has already been restored to its original state, with the vendors also raising the house and building underneath.

The house is on a large, fully-fenced 918 sqm parcel of land, with gated entry.
Dr Howe said he had seen an increase in interest for property in Brisbane’s inner west, particularly in the catchment areas of elite private schools and near UQ.
Toowong is 4km from the CBD and has a median house price of $823,000.
