An Olympic gold medallist is in line for a luxury home upgrade after the first of three properties she has listed sold for $3.75m.
The Sunshine Coast riverfront holiday home owned by Aussie sports legend Debbie Flintoff-King and her coach husband Phil King was the richest sale from a bumper weekend of auctions for the Ray White group.
The multimillion-dollar transaction brings the 1988 Seoul Olympics 400m hurdles gold medallist one step closer to her dream of moving into a sprawling pad large enough to accommodate her growing tribe.
“We bought this home off the plan from Mosaic in 2019, and have loved every minute of it, but we have adult children with grandchildren on the way so we’d like to have some more space,” she said.
Mr King said “like most people, we tend to go to an apartment block and want the highest level for the best view, but the apartment we bought is on the ground floor, and the apartment is front and centre on the Maroochy River”.
“The degree to which the landscape changes with the tide each day is quite breathtaking. The connection you get from being on the same level as the river really took our breath away and we signed up straight away.”
Ray White Maroochydore agent Pam Thomas sold the 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom unit at 1002/100 Duporth Ave, Maroochydore.
Two bidders vied for the keys on auction day, with competitive bidding as the price climbed higher.
Ms Thomas said the successful buyer was a Noosa-based family relocating from a larger home.
“There was a lot of interest from buyers wanting a luxury holiday home and from people looking to downsize,” she said.
“I’ve never seen a better appointed apartment. It’s a great size and a really great configuration with the master in almost an entirely separate wing. You can walk to Sunshine Plaza, and all the Ocean Street restaurants.”
The star athlete is upgrading to a larger five-bedroom holiday apartment along the same sought-after stretch.
“We’re also selling the two development sites in order to bridge the gap between what we anticipate the apartment will bring and what’s required for the new place,” Ms Flintoff-King said.
The Melbourne-based couple has listed an 810 sqm block at 88 Chaucer St, Moorooka priced at $1.1m, and a 1,414 sqm site at 31 Carter Rd, Nambour, priced about $645,000.
Both are marketed by Ray White Special Projects agent Andrew Burke.
Mr Burke described the sites as “an excellent opportunity for developers to cash in on the current housing crisis”.
Ms Flintoff-King filmed an advertisement for Ray White 34 years ago called “go for sold”.
The Maroochy River apartment was the top result from 465 Ray White auctions — the second busiest of the year for the nationwide group.
This week’s volume was 34 per cent higher than the same week last year, with a preliminary clearance rate of 70 per cent.
