SPRINGFIELD coffee outlets are thriving as the region’s cafe culture continues to take off.
Grabbing a quality coffee has never been easier with the number of Greater Springfield outlets doubling in the past 12 months.
From the recognisable chains of Coffee Club and Gloria Jeans, to solo ventures such as La Mocha and The Dark Horse Cafe — all are thriving as the city’s thirst for brews grows.
More than 10 cafes are operating at Springfield Central, with more and more cafes popping up at Springfield Lakes and Springfield.
The Springfield News Facebook Page was flooded with more than 220 comments when it asked what coffee spot was our community’s favourite.
Among the popular votes was Erkan Senyucel’s La Mocha, which he opened at Springfield Lakes six months ago.
“I’m a builder by trade so I love coffee and I’ve been living in Springfield for five years and drinking coffee all around Springfield,” he said. “It (Springfield) was missing a good quality coffee.
“If you have a bad coffee, your day won’t go well.”
Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce president Ralph Breaden said residents no longer had to travel outside the city to find a good cafe — as was the case five years ago.
“The area demanded more coffee shops, and now we are getting more and more,” Mr Breaden said.
Marie Lock and her husband took over The Dark Horse Cafe at Springfield Metro this year and Mrs Lock said the expanding Orion Springfield Central and growing population meant the family had a lot of confidence in the future of the business.
