Villawood Properties has unveiled plans for its new $500 million Helensvale community, called The Surrounds, which will be home to more than 7,000 residents in more than 2,000 residences upon completion.
Covering 89ha, The Surrounds is located on the former Gold Coast Country Club, and is bordered by Westfield Helensvale and Coombabah Creek. About 30% of the community (30ha) will be dedicated to green open space, including new parklands and a green buffer that fringes the site.
The new community has been designed to take advantage of the easy access to the nearby M1, Gold Coast Highway, Helensvale Train Station and future Gold Coast light rail stage 2.
Construction of The Surrounds is due to begin next month, creating more than 1,500 local jobs over the seven to ten year project.
Villawood Properties Executive Director Tony Johnson (pictured left with Villawood State Manager Development Michael Williams) said The Surrounds catered to local second and third home buyers who were looking for a new home in the community they already loved.
“We anticipate that a high percentage of buyers will be living within 5-10 km of the community. Interest to date has shown that these buyers already enjoy the location, the amenity, the schools and access of this established area, but simply want to upgrade to a new contemporary home to fully enjoy the Gold Coast lifestyle,” he said.
“The Surrounds could well be one of Queensland’s most connected communities because you can buy land that has major transport infrastructure already in place.”
“To add to this, the future plans of the light rail in close proximity to the development will bring about added convenience for The Surrounds’ home owners. Not only will it provide another transport option, but research shows property along stage one of the Gold Coast’s light rail track has improved in value significantly.”

Mr Johnson said Villawood Properties would draw on its extensive experience in developing masterplanned communities to ensure The Surrounds was a place Gold Coast residents wanted to call home.
The Surrounds will be Villawood Properties’ fourth project in the region, having completed Miramar at Casuarina and Essencia at Dakabin. It is also currently developing the Kingsholme acreage community – Montego Hills.
